North Korea warns US it's "ready for war" as navy strike group diverts to region amid rising tensions

North Korea has warned the US that it is "ready for war" and there would be "catastrophic" consequences if it is forced to defend itself from any military provocations.
A spokesman for the nuclear-armed state issued the threat after a US Navy strike group, including the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier, diverted to the region amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula.
It comes as the secretive country led by Kim Jong-un is expected to test is nuclear or missile capabilities this week, and talk of military action by the US gains traction following last week's strikes against Syria.
China has reportedly moved 150,000 tropops and medical supplies to its border with North Korea fearing a refugee crisis in the event of US strike, and one of its top envoys has vowed to work with both countries to avert a war.
A spokesman for North Korea's foreign ministry said in response: "This goes to prove that the US reckless moves for invading the DPRK have reached a serious phase.
"The DPRK is ready to react to any mode of war desired by the US."
